From seed to harvest

How is food grown, Growing food, Create your market stall and Growing conditions are the four topics covered in this section of the teaching resources. They are split into Key Stages One and Two and can be downloaded by clicking on the links below. More resources will be made available throughout the Year of Food and Farming. A new section will be added each term e.g. Spring and summer terms.



	Key Stage 1 Lesson 1 >>

This lesson plans lets children learn about how food is grown. They can share ideas and write key points on the board and find out what is meant by the words growing, seeds, planting, watering and harvesting. A worksheet is included with this plan.

	Key Stage 1 Lesson 2 >>

Yoghurt pots, compost, beans, a camera, paper and pens are all you need to show children how they can grow their own food. Children will see how their beans develop and can record the various stages of growth.

What are farmers' markets and what happens at one? Children will learn about displaying, preparing, pricing and advertising food for their own martket stall.

This lesson plan lets children write a newspaper report on growing plants. They can write about the different growing conditions for crops like wheat, potatoes, sugar beet, oil seed rape, oats and peas.
