In Nottingham

Hi, thanks for calling in at our Year of Food and Farming Website. It is part of our ongoing promotion of healthy eating and our focus on fresh and good quality food that pupils can enjoy at lunch time in schools across Nottingham City.

During the last few years, and long before the recent Government initiatives, we have moved away from prepared food and worked with local suppliers to source fresh, local ingredients. We have altered our tender processes to make it easier for local suppliers to bid for our business and a number have been successful.

Now we are supporting the Year of Food and Farming. This is a new idea supported by Government to help youngsters learn more about where their food comes from. The information will be added to each month so you can find out how crops are grown and animals are brought up on the farm. So please come back on a regular basis and explore the pages available.

We will also be holding promotions and competitions in schools and on our websites so look out for more information. The prizes will include a trip to a local farm so you can see what goes on, hampers of delicious, locally grown food and computer games like an Eye Toy so you can exercise while you play.

If you would like to find out more about what we do to promote healthy school meals in Primary Schools please go to While there why not try out the great games in the funfair. You can play them on your own or with family and friends.

When you would like some recipe ideas and cooking tips you might like to visit There you can send in your favourite recipes and have a chance of winning some great prizes such as holiday and High Street vouchers.
